Planning your trip
Season: Most horse-friendly sites are accessible mid-June through October. Snowpack lingers on Piedra Road into early June.
Reservations: Williams Creek and West Fork book up on summer weekends — reserve via Recreation.gov or arrive midweek.
Required paperwork: Bring current Coggins and a brand inspection (Colorado requires it for transport). We ask for proof of insurance and Coggins at pickup.
Water: Pack a collapsible bucket — most of these sites pull from creeks or rivers, not spigots.
